After three consecutive dry years, California's currently in the midst of a drought emergency. Governor Brown declared the statewide emergency in January 2014 and issued an executive order three months later to strengthen the ability to manage water and habitat effectively in drought conditions and to encourage Californians to redouble their water conservation efforts. Some local water agencies have called on customers to take specific actions to reduce water use and have implemented mandatory restrictions.

In the Bay Area, what are the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) and East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD) doing in response to the drought? Join AWWEE's Bay Area Leadership Team for a conversation with Ellen Levin, Deputy Manager of the SFPUC's Water Enterprise, and Eileen White, Manager of Water Operations at EBMUD, to learn more about these agencies' approaches to water resource planning and drought management in the Bay Area.

There is an optional tour from 5:30-6:00 of the SFPUC’s sustainable headquarters building, one of the nation’s greenest office buildings. This is an opportunity to visit this state-of-the-art 13-story, 277,500 square-feet building, designed and built to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum standards, exemplifying sustainable design and fiscal responsibility. The building features onsite wastewater treatment, use of recycled wastewater, rainwater harvesting, solar panels, wind turbines, and more.
