Please join the San Diego Regional Team in welcoming Janelle Beland, Undersecretary for the California Natural Resources Agency, for this special Path to Power event.

Janelle Beland has served in the Brown administration since May of 2011, as the Undersecretary for Natural Resources. The Natural Resources Agency has a $9.5 billion budget, over 19,000 employees and oversees more than three dozen departments, boards, commissions and conservancies charged with restoring, protecting and managing California's natural, historical and cultural resources for current and future generations. The agency oversees the administration's involvement in water issues, forestry and fire protection, fish and wildlife, state parks, cultural and historic resources, climate adaptation, energy and mineral resources, coastal protection and many other aspects of California's natural resources conservation.

Since her appointment in 2011, Ms. Beland has served as the principal staff person to the Secretary for Natural Resources in supervising the operations of the agency and its three dozen departments, boards, commissions and core programs.  Janelle serves as a key advisor to the Governor and Secretary concerning sensitive administrative and environmental issues and engages in the management of those issues.

Beland has served for 19 years in the legislative and executive branches of state government in a wide range of positions focused on communications, policy development and government administration.

Prior to her appointment, Ms. Beland served in a number of positions for the State, including as a senior advisor and caucus director for Senate President Pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg, and as chief of staff and legislative director.  She was a legislative and government affairs associate for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, a consultant to the Speaker’s Office of Member Services, and a deputy press secretary for the California Department of Justice.  She also spent many years working in network television newsrooms and technical studio operations.

Registration for this event is open through November 1.
