TO MAIN AWWEE WEBPAGE
In 2015, California entered the fourth year of a severe drought. Although droughts are a regular feature of the state's climate, the current drought is unique in modern history in that the past four years have been the driest on record and that temperatures have been exceptionally warm. Heat amplifies the effects of drought by reducing snowpack (a major component of water storage), decreasing soil moisture (stressing vegetation and increasing irrigation demands), and raising water temperatures (which stresses fish and other species that live in rivers and lakes).
Please join AWWEE's Bay Area Regional Team in welcoming Caitrin Phillips Chappele, Associate Center Director of the Public Policy Institute of California, for an interactive discussion regarding the impacts of California's latest drought on farms, urban areas, rural communities, and the environment, with a look ahead to the long-term challenges of managing our recurring droughts.
