California’s forests are the headwaters for the State’s water supply, and support hydro power and critical transmission infrastructure.  Our speakers will address how these resources are affected by fire prevention and control and timber management decisions.  Please join AWWEE's Sacramento regional team to hear from Janet Barentson, Chief Deputy Director for CAL FIRE, and Mark Rentz, President of Integrated Natural Resources Management, LLC at this event.

Janet Barentson, Chief Deputy Director, CAL FIRE
Janet Barentson was appointed Chief Deputy Director on February 17, 2012 by Governor Brown. Previously Barentson had served as CAL FIRE's Deputy Director of Management Services since 2009 and prior to that, three years as Chief of Budgets. Barentson also served the State for 15 years with the California Highway Patrol, and in State auditing positions.

Mark Rentz, President, Integrated Natural Resources Management, LLC.
Mark Rentz is a professional forester and attorney, providing management and policy advocacy in resource management matters requiring coalition building and expertise in multiple resource areas. Mark served as Deputy Director for Policy Coordination in California’s Dept. of Pesticide Regulation, and in policy positions with the Association of California Water Agencies, Cal/EPA, and California Forestry Association. Mark helped develop the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and craft the California Forest Fire Protection Act of 2004, co-sponsored by industry and the Sierra Club, to providing a streamlined approval process for removing excess forest vegetation to reduce the risk of wildfires and provide biomass for renewable energy.

Lunch will be provided.

Special thanks to Downey Brand for the use of their meeting space.
